Maria Island

A 30 minute ferry ride from Tasmania's east coast, this stunning national park is known for its flora and fauna, including seals. While you explore the island, keep an eye on the shoreline and out to sea for their playful antics. And if you want to head out on a guided tour from Hobart you can save up to 10%.

Remember these important tips
  • Keep a distance: Give seals plenty of space to relax. Approaching too closely can cause stress and disrupt their natural behaviour.

  • Look, but don't touch: They might be cute, but seals are wild animals and can be dangerous if they feel threatened.

  • Respect their habitat: Seals love Tasmania’s beaches and rocky shores, so let’s keep those areas clean and peaceful for them.

Seals can be seen year-round in Tasmania, but spring and summer are ideal for calmer weather and easier access to coastal areas. Mornings and late afternoons often provide the best lighting for photography.
