A hike to remember
Tasmanian adventures sometimes take unexpected turns, and for Phoebe and her friend Ebony, a planned hike up Frenchmans Cap became truly memorable.
Tasmanian adventures sometimes take unexpected turns, and for Phoebe and her friend Ebony, a planned hike up Frenchmans Cap became truly memorable.
Frenchmans Cap is renowned for some of Tasmania’s most stunning landscapes, but scenic views weren't the only highlight of their day. Just as they were about to set out, they discovered their car keys were locked inside the vehicle, and to top it off, there was no phone reception.
After much deliberation, Phoebe and Ebony decided to press on with their hike. Halfway up, they miraculously received a notification on their phone. Phoebe quickly connected with Jackie Benson, our Senior Customer Service Consultant. "Jackie was fantastic," Phoebe recalls, "She immediately understood our predicament and had arranged for a RACT Roadside team member to meet us the following day."
The RACT team, known for their prompt assistance, coordinated with John Thompson, our contractor from Dilgers Central Garage in Queenstown.. True to their promise, John was waiting at the trailhead the following day, ready to lend a hand. "Just like that," Phoebe says, relieved by the quick response, especially as the weather began to worsen.
This adventure not only gave Phoebe and Ebony a story to laugh about later, but also highlighted the importance of preparedness and reliable support, especially in remote locations. “You just know if you live in Tasmania, you need to have RACT because this is the kind of silly thing that can happen,” Phoebe reflects. “Being in the middle of nowhere and having people who are easy to talk to and who know Tasmania makes all the difference”.
At RACT, whether it’s simple support, or a roadside rescue, our mission is to be a shoulder to lean on and get you back on track safely and confidently, just like we did for Phoebe and Ebony's Frenchmans Cap adventure.
