Make this Easter egg-ceptional with your pets
As the thrill of Easter fills the air, let's not forget to help protect our pets from the hidden dangers that come with chocolate and festive decorations.
Easter is the perfect time to relax, catch up with loved ones and enjoy a few extra days off. But while we're tucking into chocolate and hosting backyard barbies, there are a few things pet owners should watch out for.
Many common Easter foods and decorations can be dangerous for our furry friends.
Keep chocolate out of reach
While chocolate is a treat for us, it's a no go for our cats and dogs. Even small amounts can be toxic and cause restlessness, vomiting or seizures.
When the kids enjoy the thrill of the Easter egg hunt in the garden, it’s a wise idea to keep your furry friends inside or right by your side to prevent any chocolate mishaps.
Did you know that dark chocolate can pose a greater risk than milk or white chocolate?
Be mindful of hidden ingredients
Many Easter foods can contain ingredients that are dangerous for our pets. Hot cross buns often contain raisins or currants, which can cause kidney failure in dogs. Even things like xylitol, which is commonly found in sugar free products and certain nuts can be harmful.
Top tip: stick to treats made especially for pets or stick to things they can eat like: carrots, blueberries, cooked boneless meats, seedless watermelon, pumpkin, boiled and peeled eggs, cooked rice, parsley or xylitol-free peanut butter

Clean up wrapping and decorations
Foil wrappers, shredded paper, leftover food and plastic decorations might look like toys, but they can be serious choking hazards to pets. If swallowed, they can cause digestive issues, so it's best to make sure nothing is left around.
Watch out for toxic plants
Some popular flowers and plants like lilies, tulips and daffodils, can be harmful to pets. Even just brushing past them or taking a bit can lead to symptoms like gastrointestinal distress, drooling, lethargy and nausea.
To try instead: choose pet-safe flowers like roses, sunflowers or snapdragons to brighten up your space without the added risk.
