Celebrating National Rescue Dog Day!

Here are just a few staff stories about their experiences with providing a home for their beloved rescue dogs.

Today, on National Rescue Dog Day, we shine a light on the incredible rescue dogs that have found their forever homes. These heartwarming stories of resilience and unconditional love remind us of the importance of adopting rescue animals and giving them a second chance at a happy life.

Hi I'm Linda

Hannah speaks about the experience of adopting her Greyhound, Linda (affectionately known as Linny), which has proven to be the best decision. She says, "with her very quirky personality, she’s a special addition to my household. Even though I've only had her for a year, the love and contentment she brings me is truly invaluable."

Meet Billie

From what Jill and Henry were told at the Dogs' Home of Tasmania, this well-mannered adult dog was found roaming rural properties on the outskirts of Hobart’s Eastern Shore. With no ID or no one coming forward to claim her, she was given a fresh start at a new life as she was put up for adoption. It hasn't taken Billie long to settle into the family's rural property. She's a great help around the farm and makes friends with all the livestock, letting them know that she's always in charge.

Introducing Lottie

In Karen's experience, the adoption process from the Dogs' Home of Tasmania was seamless. She loved that there was genuine concern in matching the dog with their suitable humans. A full vet check was completed pre-purchase, and the opportunity to spend genuine time together away from their enclosures was of great assistance. Karen and her family decided to retain the name given to their pooch as it suited her perfectly.

Say hello to Whispa

He's just turned 1, Whispa is the 'might pies,' supporter and German Shepherd cross Border Collie. Donna and her family adopted Whispa when he was about 9 months old from the Dogs' Home of Tasmania. The shelter had first taken him in as a new puppy, but he was returned 8 months later as the previous owners were unable to look after him. Donna's lads renamed him Whispa after Nick Daicos from the Collingwood Football Club and let's just say he's never looked back.

Rescue dogs like Linda, Billie, Lottie and Whispa all bring immeasurable joy and companionship to their owners. They often come with unique personalities and stories, making them special members of any family. By adopting a rescue dog, you’re not only giving an animal a second chance at life but also opening your heart to the unconditional love that these pets are known for.
