Tassie’s top pet names revealed this International Dog Day

Published | 26 August 2024

This International Dog Day, we revealed Tasmania's most popular dog names and breeds while encouraging pet owners to prioritise the care of their four-legged friends.

Our Chief Experience Officer Karla Wasinski said the state's top five dog names were:

  1. Frankie

  2. Ruby

  3. Daisy

  4. Winston

  5. Archie

“These names, filled with personality and warmth, reflect the human-like charm of our pets and the deep bond we share with them,” Ms Wasinski said.

Data collected by PetSure shows the Golden Retriever is Tasmania’s most popular dog breed, followed by Cavoodle, Labrador, Miniature Dachshund, Border Collie and French Bulldog.

“These names and breeds, known for their friendly nature and strong bonds with their owners, highlight the state's love for furry family members.

“As Tasmania’s largest insurer, we’re encouraging owners to improve their pets' quality of life and ensure they live long and happy lives.

“The impacts of many of the most common health conditions impacting pets can be managed. This includes things such as infections and allergies, muscle and skeletal issues like arthritis and ear conditions like infections.

“Owners can greatly improve the wellbeing of their pets by ensuring they are appropriately fed, get appropriate exercise and are regularly groomed,” Ms Wasinski said.

“Just like us, pets need to feel safe at home, so it's important to ensure they have safe spaces and comfort items such as toys and comfortable bedding.

“On top of this, routine check-ups are an important factor when ensuring your pet is healthy.

“By booking regular vet visits, you can monitor your pet’s needs and catch potential issues early.

Despite this, Ms Wasinski said accidents and illnesses could still occur despite our best efforts to keep pets safe.

“We all love our four-legged family members, and pet insurance can help provide an important safety net when accidents and illness strike.”

“We partnered with Petinsurance.com.au to launch pet insurance earlier in the year and current RACT members receive an introductory offer.”
